There is a huge collection of freshwater plants that can be added to freshwater aquariums. Many beginner-friendly plants, such as Anubias, Crypts, and Java Ferns, can be added without fertilizers and CO2 supplementation. However, quite a few plants need more elbow grease to stay happy. A perfect example is the Madagascar Lace, which can be difficult to keep for many fishkeepers. This table displays a list of many freshwater plants that can be added to aquariums. This list does not include every single plant out there, but many are listed. I will do my best to continue to add to this list.
As a disclaimer, the supplement column on this table is what is suggested for the plant. Many freshwater plants may be perfectly fine with zero supplementation, even if supplements are suggested. Every fish tank is unique. However, your fish tank may need more of one type of supplement, less of another, or none altogether. It’s something we as fish keepers have to experiment with to learn.
